Hi, Everyone,
We lived in Redding from 1999 to 2004. The heat finally chased us away. Now we have a little piece of heaven by a creek, nestled in the tall trees, near the Oregon Coast.
We still have 2 kids (old kids--LOL!) and a granddaughter living and loving it in Redding, so we get back there a couple of times a year.
I'm the webmaster for 2 Redding area websites--AffordableRedding.com, which belongs to our son, and LoveYourPetExpo.com, which belongs to our daughter. When either of them has something newsworthy going on, I'll drop by and post. Otherwise, I'm pretty much out of touch with the Redding area. If any of you have questions about Redding area animals, real estate, or tennis, I'd be happy to pass them on to Katie or Ed.
Great forum. I know how tough it can be getting something like this going and keeping it active. I'll do what I can to help.

Hi Suz, where on the coast? I'm currently in Portland myself, moved up here from Redding in 2004 as well.

We lived in Portland for a few months--loved it. We miss the hikes around Multnomah Falls, the big library downtown, and Powell's City of Books. <sigh>
Now we're really rural. Swisshome is about 24 miles inland from Florence. We're about 3 hours away from you and a little over an hour from Eugene. We absolutely love it here, but it's an almost 7-hour drive to see our kids in Redding. ![]()

I know the area, that's off the 36, right? I lived in Eugene when I was in college, I'd take drives to the coast every other week or so. I love the Oregon coast. I was born and raised in rural Northern CA, and even moved back to Redding when I got a job there, but Portland is pretty much everything I could ask for. Urban but not too big, friendly, slow paced, good music scene. I can even almost afford to buy a home here...almost.

Yup, affordable real estate--that's why we moved here. We've wanted waterfront property for over 40 years, but the prices were always just a little more than we could afford. We fell in love with the "banana belt" (Brookings, Gold Beach, Port Orford) about 10 years ago, but by the time we could afford to retire, prices there were pushing (and sometimes hitting) 7 figures. We didn't want to be this far away from Redding, but here we found our little dream cottage, right on a swimming creek, for less than $100,000. (That was before the last real estate boom.) We got sooooooo lucky.
