server colocation

I have a 2U IBM server and Not sure where to rack it....My first Question would be, Would I be able to host it on at&t's 6.0 dsl or should I just bite the bullet and have it colo? If you suggest colocation do you have any suggestions on a nearby hosting facility? Thanks

Re: server colocation

I'm pretty sure the nearest location for colocation around here would be Sacramento. Colocation is easier and puts the responsibility on someone else smile I would check AT&T's Acceptable Use Policy and bandwidth usage restrictions. I use Charter Business whom charges me about 125.00 a month which really sucks! I haven't bothered with DSL because they're just recently getting more reliable, cable has just been the better choice for me. Hmmm, choices???

Re: server colocation

I should add that at the moment I am currently not running any servers externally, I just have the option to open them up to the world or not. You get up to 5 dedicated IP's with the Charter Business account, I think they may have a smaller package though, you know how they are always changing it up on you! And of course it all depends on what you intend on hosting on your server.

Re: server colocation

Pretty much sac/sf or Portland are the closest places that I know of, but I can't recommend one because I have never had a need for my own colo'ed server. Shared hosting works fine for me, as I only need to worry about making sure my own scripts are secure. The host takes care of all the other server admin details.

For me, it's not worth the security risks to self host because I rather spent my time running my sites than constantly dealing with security patches and making sure the server is secure.
