Ok, my husband and I have lived in Redding, well, California as a whole for only 8 months. We live in a small development down by Sacramento and Girvan. Our home is only 3 years old, so it's pretty new compared to the surrounding homes. This past Friday night, my husband's 2002 Toyota Tundra was stolen RIGHT out of our driveway and our van was vandalized. The "perpetrator(s)" ended up crashing the truck into a tree by Airport Rd. and Rancho at about 1-2am. We didn't find this out until the next day, of course.
After calling the police and waiting an hour, an officer arrived, only to wonder why we weren't notified the prior evening by the officer who found the vehicle in the first place. We had no idea it had already been found, or what condition it was in. We were only told this, by the run-around committee at the "towing facility". What a joke! These people were completely rude and uncompassionate. After bickering for 15 min., they finally decided to let us see the truck. ONLY then to say "oh, isn't that the one that's totalled? OH yes, that one was wrapped around a tree." Gee, thanks for wasting my time.
The officer on our "case" only seems to work on the weekends and after talking to another officer, was told that basically all they do is check for fingerprints...and it takes about 3-4 MONTHS to get results back on it. I mean, is there NO faster justice in this city? We sure have a nice lookin' city hall...couldn't we use some money for people to INVESTIGATE crime, instead of have a nice fountain to look at? I was also told that I am more than welcome to do my OWN investigating and to call them if I have a name and an address. Not to mention that it probably would have been helpful for the police to know that the "perpetrator(s)" left 2 packs of gum, 2 unsmoked cigarettes, a red BIC lighter AND a cheap CD player. Perhaps if they had known, they would've taken prints off those. Instead, they did the doors (from the dust we could see, once finally able to view the truck). They'll probably come back (in 4 months) with "all the prints we got were your husband's"....thanks.
I'm completely upset, seeing as we moved here because it's such a "low crime" community. I do believe that, but come on, this is ridiculous.
So, if you see any kids running around with bruises on their left side, they probably stole our truck.

We had another incident last night. My neighbor caught 3 teenagers trying to steal his car last night and chased them down the street. About 20 kids came out of the house and beat him. His roommate immediately called the police, but by the time they arrived, everyone was inside. My neighbor was trying to clean himself up, however, because the police said "no one was outside" they never stopped to take a statement or do ANY investigating at all. Funny.
So now, they give a nice "sorry we can't do anything" and we're left the same as we were when my husband's truck was stolen, nowhere. thanks policeman.
I'm going to goto the press about this because these "kids" live just a block away and if our police force isn't going to do anything about it, I will.
