A political Web site titled with the city's name has Shasta Lake threatening to sue.
But the site's Measure C proponents say they're not misusing the city's name and won't change their Web address.
The Internet site, cityofshastalake.com, will be discussed at tonight's City Council meeting, when council members could take action to fight it.

Whether you agree with Measure C or not, that kind of "we'll sue you" crap pisses me off. What's next, Ken Murray will go after redding.com, and maybe me for owning redding-california.com? Shasta national forest sues me for lake-shasta.com?
They have raised my ire, so I'll start working on my googlebomb now:
City of Shasta Lake

If they wanted the name they could spend what they would on suing to present an offer.
No login required if you are the googlebot ![]()

Are you modifying your http_user_agent? Or using a proxy?

I have my useragent change and referrer change only on certain sites because there are some places it messes it up, and some places let me in as the googlebot others let me in as msn and so on. But for most places it's best to have your useragnet show as the googlebot and MSIE blah blah, if you are just the bot it can toss back that you are not using IE, so for most general surfing I use :
Mozilla/5.0 (compatible;MSIE 5.5; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; Googlebot/2.1; +http://www.google.com/bot.html)
which will let you into alot of places, locked forums hell even a bunch of porn sites without having to login.
There is a program out called admuncher that let's you change your agent without modifying the registry and it's easy to turn on and off when not needed which I got the idea from and have expanded to let you change your agent (and or referrer which is a work in progress right now) on a site by site basis because not all sites let you in under the same circumstances. It's not even near complete yet but when done I'll either market it or see if the developers of admuncher would be interested, for a share of course.

Hehe, slick Toad! Speaking of Mozilla, http://torpark.nfshost.com/ a modified Firefox browser that allows you the freedom to surf anonymously, slow as heck though due to using German proxies.

O.K. Toad...I use admuncher and I see where to change my 'referrer' field and my 'user agent' field but what do I put in there? I'm no expert but I tried some different things and it slows my surf speed.

Enabling ip scramble will slow you wayyyyy down.
Ok I loaded admuncher and took some screenshots ![]()
1- Right click on admuncher in the tray and click configure
2- Select OPTIONS
3- Go to ADVANCED
4- Under referrer click change referrer to then under that click new site's domain. Whenever you click on a link now it will look like you came from the place you are clicking. Sometimes this causes problems but with admuncher it's easy to right click on it in the tray and temporarily disable filtering then refreshing the page.
5-Under user agent check "Change user-agent field to" then in the box paste this:
Mozilla/5.0 (compatible;MSIE 5.5; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; Googlebot/2.1; +http://www.google.com/bot.html)
6- Hit apply and close.
Admuncher is definately one of the simplest and most effective clean surf tools I have used and uses about 4mb of ram. The only drawback it has is it doesn't let me set custom filters for my useragent and referrer but even still it's worth 25$
check out admuncher here

Thanks Toad...that's what I did. Interesting to say the least...somebody will make it illegal someday under the guise of national security. Well, maybe only for a lefty like me!lol Using that same concept though you could pretend to be somebody else...couldn't you?

Yeah you can change it to say anything you want, certain sites let certain search bots walk right in so they can be indexed. Most places want google to cruise thru, and in some cases thru the private members areas. The idea I have been toying with is having the useragent change depending on the domain because some places let some bots in and not others. I have it now so it reads from a file to see if a domain is listed and if it is change it accordingly. It works to an extent but doesn't have any of the really powerful filtering capabilities of admuncher, plus it eats more ram than admuncher.
