Understanding and Communicating with Someone Affected by Dementia

There Must Be A Better Way Than This! Understanding and Communicating with Someone Affected by Dementia

We aren't born knowing how to communicate with a person with dementia. Some simple tools and tips can make caregiving easier and help you to continue feeling connected to you loved one. Please join speaker Beth Logan, Elder Care Consultant, Family Caregiver Alliance to: hear how dementia affects a person's ability to understand and communicate and how you can communicate more effectively, learn simple skills to handle troubling behavior, and feel more confident in your caregiving role. This FREE workshop is presented as a videoconference. You'll join other caregivers at video conference site typically a hospital or health clinic.

WHEN:
Wed., May 3, 2006, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon

WHERE:
Locations in the following nine California counties: Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou, Tehama and Trinity.

HOW TO REGISTER:
Visit www.californiacrc.org to register. When registering, select the county where you will attend the workshops. The name and address of the site you select will be sent to you by email within a few days.

My mother died  6 years ago after suffering 10 years (or more) with  Dementia/Alzheimer's..

I wish there had been something like this back then. I have to admit I didn't handle the situation as well as I wish I had. It can be so frustrating, and your feelings can get hurt easily when you don't truly understand what is happening or how to deal with it.

Thanks for posting this. I am sure there are a lot of people that could benefit from this video conference.

Welcome to the forum mkrause.  Nice to see we are getting these types of resources this far north.  Too bad it's a video and not live but I am sure people coming together to share their situations is gonna help, it always seems to.
