Wait a minute! I think I have found the perfect place.

I mean, let's face it... where in the states can you get a thatched roof for under a hundred bucks a night. It's perfect! I love it!

OK! You're both on the list.
Let's see now... I should probably reserve two rooms instead of one... and maybe three Volkswagons instead of two.
Anyone else?

Since Terri can't seem to make up her mind, maybe we'll just make a stop at Walmart in Cancun where she can do her own shopping.
By the way, the prices are in "Pesos" - conversion approximately 10 to 1.

Hmmmm! Did a little research on this, not only would I like to join, I think I might just look at the area for a permanent domicile. Ahhhh, the sound of the waves, the blue sky, the breeze, the nets, oh, wait a minute, nets.......for what Why nets? Anyway back to the cool (they are cool aren't they) breezes, the warm sand, the warming sensation of tequila filling the inner most being, well, the outer most is o.k. too. Wait a minute, is there indoor plumbing there? With the stress of this time in life, I am willing deal with a few inconveniences. I only ask as I recently went camping with a group that said "Oh sure there are facilities" Well, their definition of facilities and mine turned out to be completely diverse. However, I was a good sport and survived, or should I say I allowed them to survive, due to their ignorance regarding my interpretation of "roughing it". All went well, however, I'm done with thåt particularly remote, beautiful part of the wilderness. On to better things and more shopping at the local liquor stores. Yahooo let's go, the first and last round is on me!! At that point, who cares about the facilities!!!

Ok! Let me pencil Scarlets name in here.

I got an offer from some native tour guides. I mean... I've never actually heard of any of the attractions on their list of things to see... but the price is right.
So what do you think... should we hire them?

Frank,
I was starting to wonder if Wilma was affecting the area you will be staying at. I didn't go to the forums yet. I looked up Puerto Morelos and saw that is about 20 minutes south of Cancun. That is pretty close. Here is part of an article I read:
>>>>About 100 foreign tourists stood talking in groups under chandeliers in the cavernous marble lobby of the Hotel Royal Porto Real, near the sea front in Playa del Carmen, another resort just south of Cancun.
"It was meant to be the fortnight holiday of a lifetime," said 28-year-old Simon Hayes, one of four friends on holiday from Britain.
"This is not how I envisaged it working out."<<<
Sounds like that is right where Puerto Morelos is located. Between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. Is that correct?
Hope the "palapa roofs" can weather the storm .....
I will go and read the forum you posted now

Riki,
Having upgraded to a private "concrete" villa (Casa Sol Y Luna), the thatched roofs won't be a problem. But this villa does sit right on the beach... and will most likely be directly within the eye of Hurricane Wilma within the next few hours. What this ultimately means, I'm not sure. I just hope that everyone down there now is safe. I guess we'll know something more tomorrow.

Dang Frank, I found a bag in a dresser I got at a garage sell full of Mexican money. One 10,000.00 and a 5,000.00 Peso bill (along with coinage), thought I was rich! Went onto yahoo money converter and it was like over 950.00 American dollars! Then I found out that Mexico calls it old money (before 1994) and it is worth 1,000.00 to 1 peso now, drats! And of course I realized it cost about 950.00 in gas to drive down there!

I've had a few of those moments myself, Ninershark. But I keep going to those garage sales because I just know I'm going to hit the motherload one of these days.

For those of you who may be interested, I have posted reports below regarding the effects of Hurricane Wilma on the community of Puerto Morelos (NOTE: We have no news yet about the villa, Casa Sol y Luna, shown above):
What Puerto Morelos looked like before the storm:
http://www.locogringo.com/maps/tour/171a-t.html
Sunday, 8 PM Report from Yayo and not a good one. Disaster in Puerto Morelos, he was very shaken up,emotional, Pelicanos gone, dock gone,---the beach extends now for 100 yards--erroded into the land---everything on the beach looks like it is on a cliff and leaning or gone in to the ocean."The whole town is destroyed". Cece's+Margarites house/shop in town is leaning towards the ocean. The grocery store is ok. Had to litteraly swim to Playa Sol. Villa 6 gone, and the other in front of Politas I think is gone, Toms villa is now where the beach starts with a 6+ foot drop, his house is on a slab leaning into the ocean. Numerious windows blown out, ground floor units seemed ok,??? Uppers have broken windows. He went into ours(3rdfloor)--three windows broken some but not much water in unit. Very quick call as he was on someones else's phone. It seems the other bldgs, #8 (our building) and back--from his point of view--are ok but the grounds, lamps, palapas ruined. Politas damaged, windows out--I think from there back was ok. His fathers house, next to Casita del Mar, house is split in half, the front is gone, the pool and yard is now in the ocean. Ojo is destroyed. Looters/looting already started. The milatary I beleive was going to stay, I hope. So sorry to be the bearer of this news. They are going to try to call tomorrow. — John
Tuesday 9:35 am I spoke for quite a while with Martha Uscanga last night late. They had walked from their place down to Costa Blanca [new white condos between Ceiba & UNAM] to check on it. The building is OK, the shutters are still on all the windows and the a/c units are still in place on the roof. They looked out over a very devastated area from our 3rd floor roof..."Nothing in Puerto Morelos has escaped damage, but there have been no injuries or deaths reported". Andres is on the Civil disaster committee for PM and should know that status. The road to the 307 is still flooded waist deep and it also rained yesterday. There are police stationed on the 307 to make sure that anyone trying to get to PM is a resident or owner. People are wading through the water to get back and forth, in spite of the alligators. There is no food or water being brought in as of yesterday and supplies are running out. She says the people are out and walking everywhere...kind of in shock, just looking at the devastation. Houses back from the beach had damage from the swamp water, mainly perimeter walls washed out. BTW, Ojo is not destroyed...the restaurant, pool, etc. are gone but the building (she thinks) can be repaired. She will call me back tonight with an update and I'll read her the list of people that you all are asking about. — Lucy

Still here, Terri. We were supposed to be there in two weeks... but the plans have changed. Villa survived with very little damage... but the pool and grounds are now buried beneath three feet of sand. Thinking about going further south a little later. Maybe Akumal.

Looks great! But you better get in gear and make reservations before the rate hike ...If you can get in by Nov. 20th you save a grand! That is only a couple of weeks away. They are sold out for Christmas and New Years.
Are you staying a week? I didn't see rates for a single night stay....
Rates from the Casa Azul Riviera website:
Aug 21 - Nov 20 $ 3,000.00
Nov 20 - Dec 19 $ 4,000.00
Dec 19 - Jan 3/06 $ 7,400.00
Rates are in US dollars per week for 8 people. Maximum 14 people.
Additional people $250/week/person
So how many people are going?
