Who?... what?.... when did this country become Soviet Russia?
Was I out of town that week and miss the memo?
Better not let our board of stupidvisors know about this.
It's naughty, mean and just downright wrong, which is why the politicians will be on this like "white on rice" or the other one "stink on shit".
This freaking breaks my heart, the American dream, the foundation of our "society" is predicated on home ownership and values. But I guess those values apply only to the "working caste" and not the "monied caste".
That is what this place has become, not a democracy, not a rebublic, is is a caste system. Same as India.
But with the smackings of dictatorship, socializm, facshizm and just plain f*** you I have the money, so you don't have S*** - so shut up and move, oh and don't be late for work on Monday or you're fired. (from your minimum wage job that doesn't pay the bills or feed your family)
GAWD I feel like throwing up, bawling, screaming and then running buck nekkid to the end of the road and about 50 miles past it.
Be the "old nekkid hermit" that lives in these woods hereabouts....
Sheesh! What a country.

Sheesh! What a country!!!
I totally agree with you.....I could see if it was vacant, the taxes were behind and the owner was no where to be seen but to take someones home just because they wanted to develope the property thats just wrong and totally unamerican.

any ideas on who/what branch/where we could all email and have our friends do the same to voice our outrage? i am a homeowner and the idea that OUR board of supervisors, those "good ole boys" could do this makes my skin crawl. the American Dream proven a myth...

Really - no - try the Supreme Court, or an open letter in the newspaper, or share stuff like this: http://www.lileks.com/mpls/modern/deadburb/index.html
Really, it's enough to make you want to cry.

This ruling sucks big time. My inlaws fought Shasta County when the county condemed their front yard in order to put Oasis Road through it (early70's). Just west of the AM/PM as you cross Churn Creek. Fighting it only cost more money than the county offered them for the property. What a country.
If you live in this area you may want to check out these maps of areas of Redevelopment: http://www.ci.redding.ca.us/redev/projects.html
Or, if you want to learn more about Redevelopment and how it works:

The same abuse of taking land is happening in Oregon to my brother and sister-in-law right now. They have owned property and a business next to I-5 for many years. Well, apparently Home Depot wanted to build there next to the freeway...can you say Eminent Domain..I'll shut up.
Think about all the times the City of Redding, Shasta Lake and the County have abused their leverage of Eminent Domain. Hell, it may be used to get the Kutrus property on Park Marina Drive! I won't go there.
It just scares the hell out of me knowing the powers that be just got a free pass to extend their bullying politics for private gain. Corporate Welfare is alive and well.
peace...brad

The only advantage to this, is that the city can eventually force some slum houses to be knocked down if the area will never improve due to some people's continual life styles of refusing to clean up or upkeep the area (though it'll affect some poor/low income people that are just trying to live, too). Other than that possibility, I can't think of any reason for this to be allowed. It's one thing to take people's property for public use if it benefits the public and relieves congestion, etc. and that's rarely legitimate anyway, but this is ridiculous, as we all agree.
CNN's gallop poll only had 1% of the people agreeing with this ruling. I'm sure those 1% were either crazy, or they are investors and the private industry that are already eying the prime real estate. Anyway, I don't find this surprising at all to have happened in this country. Similar and worse things have been passed and ruled against the public and oppose fairness and sanity. Imagine having the perfect home, property, neighbors, etc. and having the city pull a fast one. I don't know what I'd do. Probably get as much as I could and move to Australia (no joke).

Good point Tim. I remember back when I was a kid in the Bay Area a similar situation existed, so the waiting game was implemented.

Does this appear to anyone else to be a government sanctioned land grab?
It's the "Have's" versus the "workers".
Damnit!!!
If the militia's in this area weren't so "at war" with the government I'd join one.
Instead, I think I'll read as much Thomas Jefferson as I can get my hands on and form my own militia.
This just is not right.
Read George Orwell's "Animal Farm" - we are the draft horse, always doing what we feel we have to, searching for the pleasent "promised" retirement, only to be sold to the glue makers.
Yes I know no one promised that life was fair, but damnit, we deserve an equal shot at it.
I spoke to several people today about this and, as one, they expressed that this was bullshit.
What say we form a militia?
This just is not right. Next thing you know the second amendment is repealed, or otherwise screwed with. A pasting of the second amendment: "Amendment II
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."
Who wrote that? Why our old friend Thomas Jefferson.
*sigh* - As my Daddy used to say - "Comes the revolution"

It does seem to go against the rights that we initially founded this country That which generations of Americans have stood and fought for. To own land, to pass it on to the next generation, should we choose.
Like someone said before, it would be different if it was property worthy of condeming.
However, with the information I have read thus far, it seems to be at the whim of Big Business and Corporate structure. Don't get me wrong, I am all for free enterprise and especially those who are willing to pu† in improvements to the community. Yet, with the information provided thus far, the message seems to be plain and simple. That is, to hell with the hard working American who has worked, struggled and paid his taxes, in order to own the American dream. There is no inheritance for future generations, or equity to cash in when we are elderly and need care. Instead, we have worked and paid for the ownership and enrichment of the pockets of big business and the government. Does the plight of the average farmer chime in here as well? Aren't these a few of the reasons we separated from Britan? Government owning more and more land, with the people owning less and less. Government discerning the rights of the commoners, where they shall live, how they shall live, and to whom they shall pledge their allegance and future to.
Geese, I've worked hard, paid my taxes, and now almost own my land, hopefully, to pass on to future generations and they are telling me that they have eminent domain? Like heck they do!!
I NEVER thought I would say this, but my advise is to get a rocking chair and a big gun! (although I do believe that all motorhomes, etc, should be parked aside or in back of the home.....maybe I'm not such an independant, freedom fighter after all.
O.K. Toad, as a former Susanvilite, I now give you the floor
I'm done now. Back to the sidelines to stay out of trouble. [/code]

Sweet irony
Weare, New Hampshire (PRWEB) Could a hotel be built on the land owned by Supreme Court Justice David H. Souter? A new ruling by the Supreme Court which was supported by Justice Souter himself itself might allow it. A private developer is seeking to use this very law to build a hotel on Souter's land.
Justice Souter's vote in the "Kelo vs. City of New London" decision allows city governments to take land from one private owner and give it to another if the government will generate greater tax revenue or other economic benefits when the land is developed by the new owner.

That would be too sweet. Ah irony, where is thy sting?? (sorry Bard) But see if it ever happens is the trick.
