Macintosh Hacker Attacks Are on the Rise -Symantec
I have always felt the reason Mac's get less viruses was because they just don't represent enough of the computer world. I love the arguments, but the bottom line is all OS's are susceptible. I truly believe that Linux will soon be the next victim as well, especially with it's open source code. I have never fallen for that old excuse Windows gets more viruses because the code is less secure, secure? Heck, everyone knows with all the monopoly lawsuits, MS has to have holes to let the competitors hook in, and with the hooks come the predators. Viruses have become a financial thing, why create a virus for a few people when you can affect millions of people!

I think the main thing that bothers me about Windows is that most users are running their systems as adminitrators. That would be like me running as root all the time.
I'm not going to get into the whole Mac vs Windows vs Linux thing. I just want to say that to install anything on Mac, Unix or Linux that would affect the system, the user would have to enter their root password.
On Windows you just surf the Internet or open email and unknown software can be installed with admin privilages. I am hoping Vista has done away with some of that.
The bottom line, though, is: the only secure computer is still in its box.

Macs in my opinion now, are the best Machines to get, even if you do get viruses with the newer macs, they can still do everything a pc can plus what it could initialy do. Plus they're just way better, for anything multimedia, i'd even give it a gaming edge now that they fixed the bugs in running windows from it's mac os. The only thing i'm really waiting for is 64 bit from a mac, and maybe some software to go with it. ANyone heard anything about any companies developing 64 bit software? AMD has had it's 64 bit out for years, but still no software to go with it, minus Window 64 bit edition, but it's useless with out 64 bit software. Just my Opinion!

Well, only time will tell. As Linux and OSX become more popular, there may be more viruses. It is still easier to install a virus on a Windows machine than a UNIX-based system because the user is seperated from the system. You have to enter your password to grant yourself permission to install anything. This stops viruses from automatically installing themselves. Apparently, MS knows this too because they have finally done the same with Windows Vista. In Vista, you have to enter your password before installing applications. I still think UNIX is more secure than Windows because the code is better. If history proves me wrong, so be it. So far, it has proved to be true for a very long time.

I think Windoze has good security, but Microsoft deserves bad marks for slow development and non-standard implementation of Internet Explorer and Outlook Express.
With Microsoft doing screwy things, like forcing OpenGL to be emulated in what might be the slowest version of DX yet, customers are getting fed up and moving from Windoze.
Since I don't like Linux nor Mac I haven't moved from Windoze XP.
