How about a discussion of the LGBT community?

I grew up in Redding, but went to college in Humboldt.  The cultures are incredibly different between the two, and there was one issue that surely stood out to me that I would like to talk about: acceptance of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) community.  Here in Redding, I have always assumed that people are not accepting, but I would like to hear opinions on the matter.

Re: How about a discussion of the LGBT community?

hello.   i might have a job opportunity coming up in redding.  i am in phoenix and desperate to get out of the heat and the area.  redding looks beautiful, but like any professional gay man, i am concerned about the acceptance in the area.  my partner and i will be moving together and although we are not at all flamboyant, i certainly am not willing to hide in the closet.  is there anything anyone can tell me about the LGBT "tone" in redding?  any input would be appreciated. thanks.

Re: How about a discussion of the LGBT community?

I recently corresponded briefly with a woman who lives with her significant other in Redding, CA  She likes it, it is her hometown. She moved back to Redding 10 years ago she said because the big city was too expensive. Also she wanted to be close to her family. She says they live in a nice area, it's above the St. Mary's College area. The neighborhood seems to be accepting of them as a couple, they go out for walks and talk with the neighbors. In general I think I've heard that Redding is a "redneck" town. I doubt in my lifetime I'll ever see people who are involved with the same sex accepted. To me it seems to depend a lot on how a person feels about themselves and how they project that feeling to others. Redding is a little too remote for me to live in, I'm basically a city kid. The cost of living seems to be lower than in the big city that is if one can tolerate the hot in the summer and cold in the winter. I'm sure there are gay activities in Redding so just seek out the social and get acquainted, lots of luck.
