So, were cleaning the garage so we can move, some day.. I have this old computer, its pretty old but was just being used up until a few months ago, it has been upgraded over the years etc. So I guess the power supply is bad, and I know there are still usable parts on here, one of which Id like to have on my new computer, the fire wire, I just bought it a while before it took a dump. but what should I do with this computer? I was like selling all my "junk" on craigslist, and want this out of my garage.. but didnt know if there was anything really usable here that I should keep my hands on. My new computer is a Dell, and I know its a lot different than my old trusty computer, so I dont know what is what here. Just looking for ideas.. my husband keeps telling me to get rid of it.. SOoooo.

You'd probably get more cash donating it to the goodwill and getting a tax write off than trying to sell it.

well I didnt think I should sell it really.. I was just wondering if there is anything worth keeping.. I was just gonna throw it away after I harvested my new firewire thingy off of there. Just didnt know if anything else was worth grabbing too.

Oh, oh, also, I dont even know if my fire wire card will work on my new POS Dell. Its really not supposed to be a POS but I have seriously had more problems in 3 months with this one than I did for 7 years with my old one. UGH Figures

Dell's have seriously went downhill in the last couple of years. Rule of thumb, if your old computer has at least a Pentium 4 than keep it.

no, no, its not even that nice HA! but can i put a fire wire card on my dell? when I got the computer I could still remember the name of the fire wire card, and they told me I co uld add it on. but I havent tried.. I dont know maybe I should just say screw it. my craigslist sales have been going good tho.. got rid of my old bule car today
was hard to see it go. but O well. on to bigger and better things. if we can get rid of some of our BIG junk, will make it so much easier when we move.

There are plenty of PCI Firewire adapter cards available, shouldn't be a problem, do you already have the card? Did your new PC come with Vista or XP, no matter should be plug and play.

OK yes, now that you baverefreshed my memory, it is a PCI card and it is plug and play... is there anything else I could get off of the old computer to add to the new? What if I wanted to sell the parts? since i am gonna be taking the firewire and stuff like that, if its compatible, what else can I save? I amd such a pack rat, I just apparently cant throw anything away, I dont know, I have problems >LOL.. Im not like those whorders on the learning channel shows tho.. really.. HAHA they save string and used paper towels.. doesnt matter its all pathetic LOL
